Lady Jays capture first win of the season
Other than a 14-4 loss to Mt Pleasant yesterday, the Lady Jays haven't set foot on the field since April 7 when they traveled to South Allegheny and the final results from that match up, I'm sure, wasn't what they were looking for either. SA handed the Lady Jays a 17-10 loss, and their second straight loss on the season.
And if starting the season out
on those notes wasn't enough bad news, imagine finding out that you would have to play the entire season without your ace pitcher, also.
These are just a few of the set backs that head coach Dee Cortazzo has been handed, heading into her second season at the controls. But, having no other choice than to play the cards that were handed to her, she has managed to turn it into something with some potential.
Showing up with the bats, I believe, was never going to be an issue for the Lady Jays, with returning starters Chelsea Sommers, Lauren Bosley, Delaney Cortazzo, and Sydney Pecoraro, having already proven this to be true. Pecoraro doubled twice today against East Allegheny while Sommer tripled with 2 RBI's.
Plus the opening on the mound, which I thought would be tough to fill, with the graduation of Katherine Fey, and the set back with Nicole, turns out to actually have a little light at the end of it. And it would be the freshmen Sarah Pitzer at the other end holding that light, or at least keeping it lit for now.
It was Sarah's performance on the mound in conjunction with some heavy bats, and an "in tune" defense, that helped Jeannette acquire their first win of the season over East Allegheny today by a final score of 12-2.
And that is what a great coach can do, when the cards are stacked against her. The only question now, and I have to ask it, is...will it hold up the rest of the season?
But hey...let's cross that bridge when we get to it, for now though check out some photos of the game today, you can also access them from the menu at the top under "Game Photos"
